Katherine Cameron Zara Scholarship Award Recipients … And More
Your Dayspring United Methodist Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Katherine Cameron Zara Memorial Scholarship. Kate Zara was an active member of Dayspring prior to a fatal automobile accident in August of 1995, nearly 13 years ago. Kate had attended Corona del Sol High School in Tempe and was attending Northern Arizona University when she left us way too early at the young age of 19. Those who loved Kate, and continue to love Kate, have established this scholarship in her memory to reward deserving students who wish to continue their studies at the college or university level. We are pleased to award to each of our recipients a scholarship in the amount of $2,000.
Our first recipient of the 2008 Katherine Cameron Zara Memorial Scholarship is Kelsey Kroelinger. Kelsey recently graduated from Corona del Sol High School, is interested in pursuing a medical degree, and plans to attend Arizona State University this fall.
Our next recipient is Emily Seckel. Emily graduated this year from Mountain Pointe High School, is interested in pursuing a degree in elementary education, and plans to attend Northern Arizona University.
Our final recipient is Jordan Winkler. Jordan graduated from Dobson High School, is interested in social work or speech pathology, and is planning to attend Arizona State University.
On behalf of Dayspring and Kate’s family we congratulate each of these scholarship recipients. We also thank the family and friends of Kate Zara for continuing this scholarship program in Kate’s name.
Now for the "And More." Due to the success of the Kate Zara Memorial Scholarships and thanks to the generosity of the people of Dayspring, your Dayspring United Methodist Foundation is pleased to announce the inaugural Foundation Scholarship. This $2,500 scholarship is being awarded this year to Taylor McCoy. Taylor recently graduated from Dobson High School, plans to pursue a career in marine biology, and will attend Cottey College in Missouri.
And even More … The Foundation has awarded additional $1,000 scholarships to 20 individuals in 2008 who applied for and were drawn to receive these "Pass It On" scholarships. The "Pass It On" scholarship program presented by the Foundation and made possible through the generous contributions of the people of Dayspring has paid out over $40,000 in scholarships for Dayspring members and their families over the last three years.
The Dayspring United Methodist Foundation has the privilege and honor of administering and awarding these scholarships on behalf of the people of Dayspring. If you are interested in supporting our scholarship program or establishing a legacy scholarship program of your own, please contact Tom Moyer at tkmoyer@aol.com for more information.
Congratulations to all of our scholarship winners. We wish them the best of luck in their studies.
