Mission
To support and nurture everyone in the Dayspring family, including first
time guests, new members, constituents, and longtime members. We carry
out our mission in a variety of ways such as the Welcome Table, giving
bread to first time guests, distributing a booklet of information to first
time guests, and telephoning members who have not been attending church.
New Member Orientation
This group introduces visitors or frequent attendees to Dayspring.
They contact people who are attending our worship services or those people
who have become active at Dayspring to provide information, encouraging
active participation in our vision.
Hospitality
Patio Fellowship helps members, potential members and visitors take the time
to greet one another. The coffee hour hosts 98 church services per year.
A coordinator and coffee hour hosts for each of the 98 services and monetary
donations provide cookies, coffee and lemonade.
Crisis Response
The Dayspring church family not only supports the happy moments but also the
tragic or difficult moments. This group organizes memorial receptions. They
respond on short notice.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Throughout the ages, shawls have come to symbolize shelter, peace and spiritual
sustenance. Since the inception of the Prayer Shawl Ministry in 1998, the members
of this ecumenical organization have lovingly donated their time and talents by
creating hand-knitted and crocheted shawls for those in need. Prayer Shawls provide
healing and comfort to the sick, the lonely and the elderly. In addition, members
of the group have knitted children’s sweaters for Guideposts’ Knit for Kids program
and DIY Networks’ initiative with the Warm Up America organization.
The group meets the last Wednesday of the month at 10:45 a.m.
Everyone is welcome, beginners too!
Other Hands Ministry
Other Hands is currently assisting at Westchester Care Center, located on Rural Road,
just north of Guadalupe Road. Residents may have sewing, ironing, letters to be written,
or some other need. The center may have planned some scheduled events, such as arts
and crafts, story time or Bingo. Sometimes the resident just needs to talk to someone.
Volunteers can also take time to come on their own to visit those residents they have
made contact with at the center. Some may go to play cards, others to read or to take
a walk. For more information, contact Suzanne Petticrew at
suzycrew@cox.net.
Yoga
We practice "gentle yoga" here at Dayspring. Yoga was designed to prepare the body,
mind and spirit for meditation. By using deep breathing and movement in yoga and
Chi Kung postures we come to a place of stillness at the end of our time together.
The body and mind need quiet time for healing. Yoga helps us to get to a place
where we connect with our inner self. It is our God connection, that’s the
meditation....just listen. Go to www.sallyy.com
for a list of classes and times. Anyone is welcome at any time. We modify the practice
for your needs.
Dayspring Inspirations
If you have internet access, you can sign up to receive a weekly 'inspiration' from
Dayspring. Sent once a week, but sometimes more, they are sometimes poetry, or stories
or something humorous, they are sent to let you know we are all connected even during
the week. Send your email address to
progsec@dayspring-umc.org to sign up for this program.
