Contemporary Issues

Sundays at 10:30am in the Adult Room

The 10:30 Adult Contemporary Issues class will meet for the fall season on Sept 8. The first topic will be “Who Founded Christianity? Was Jesus the first Christian? Some say Paul launched Christianity. Jesus was born a Jew, lived as a Jew, and died a Jew. Paul, a Jewish Pharisee, never met Jesus and at one time persecuted the early followers of Jesus.  How did early Christianity come into existence and become the religion it is today? We will study the early first and second centuries and how the early followers of Jesus spilt into a number of camps each with its own interpretation of his teachings. Beginning Sept 8, we study for four weeks one such group called ‘The Gnostics”; their beliefs their principles and their impact on the early followers of Jesus.  It should be a very interesting discussion. Join us as we learn Who Founded Christianity.
