DYM (Dayspring Youth Ministry) MADE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Junior High Ministries (Grades 7-8) • Senior High Ministries (Grades 9-12)
Our 7th-12th graders spend the year growing in Christ while making a difference in themselves, their families, their communities, and the world!
To nurture, inspire, and equip EACH youth member at Dayspring to know God through authentic faith, to practice love for God, to love and serve their neighbors, to understand and use the Bible, to make wise choices, to develop healthy relationships, and to participate fully in the life of the church.
Typical Sunday Schedule
10:30am Jr High & Sr High Formation (1st Sun of the month in worship)
5:30-6:00pm Combined Dinner
6:00-7:30pm Jr & Sr High UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) singing, activities and program
Formation Sundays 10:30-11:30am (Jr. High Room 110, Sr. High room 111)
Formation classes provide opportunities for the youth to learn and grow in their faith journey. The curriculum is interactive and allows for open discussion among the group. Dynamic leaders and a strong support system provide a safe environment for spiritual growth. On the first Sunday of each month all youth are encouraged to worship in lieu of formation.
Fellowship Sundays 5:30-7:30pm
UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) meets most Sundays beginning with dinner at 5:30pm to build relationships, grow in the faith and have fun. Regular activities include outings like rock climbing, hiking, pool parties and cosmic bowling. The youth also typically have overnight lock-ins and a weekend retreat experience during the year.
Youth Choir Wednesdays 6:45pm
Dayspring youth have a couple of choir options. Youth Choir meets Wednesdays at 6:45pm in the Choir Room. 8th – 12th graders are also invited to join the Celebration Singers, the choir that sings at the 9:00am service that rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm. Both choirs place an emphasis on contemporary Christian music in an energetic and fun environment. These choirs perform during worship throughout the year and hold special holiday performances.
Dayspring youth members are active in worship. Youth work with the pastors to participate in several aspects of the worship service, including communion, reading scripture, serving as ushers. Youth Sunday (Feb 4, 2018) and the Easter Sunrise Service (April 1, 2018) are organized and led by the youth group. Active participation in the worship services provides another opportunity to be an active part of the Dayspring community.
Sierra Service Project, Feed My Starving Children, 30 Hour Famine, lunch at Justa Center and dinner at UMOM are some of the ways Dayspring youth serve in the world. The youth also help plan and organize a Fall Festival (Oct 28) to provide a safe and fun setting for the younger children in the congregation and the community.
Sierra Service Project
SSP is a week-long summer service opportunity. Dayspring youth, along with youth from around the southwest, travel to sites where they are responsible for repairing homes for families that may not have the financial means to complete the repairs professionally. In the past, our youth have traveled to the Navajo reservation in northern Arizona, the San Diegueno reservation in California, and inner-city Los Angeles. This service experience allows many opportunities for fellowship, worship, and fun!
Confirmation is a spiritual growth opportunity for anyone in 7th grade or older. Youth participating in Confirmation are able to ask questions, grow in their understanding of the Christian faith, and independently choose to become a member of the church. Confirmation classes are held each year January through May.
