Dayspring United Methodist Men will meet via Zoom at 9:00am on Saturday, February 5th, beginning a monthly series of fellowship and spiritual growth experiences based on Richard Rohr’s Falling Upward: A Spirituality for the Two Halves of Life.
• Rohr contends that our job for the first half of our life is to build a “container”–a sense of identity, a set of skills, a body of knowledge, and a circle of relationships.
• Our job for the second half of life is to surrender our “container” to God so that God can transform and infuse our lives with the fruit of the Spirit – love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) – so that we can become Christ’s presence in the world.
Each of the sessions will include the exploration of different Christian spiritual practices, including Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina, and Ignatian Contemplation or Imaginative Prayer. The purpose of each of the practices is to prepare ourselves to receive and respond to the spiritual fruit that God longs to share with us. As the fruit of God’s Spirit grows within us, Christ’s life becomes more fully present in and through our lives, and Christ-in-us becomes Christ-in-others. That is how the mission of the Church works!
Because of the omicron surge, sessions will be offered via Zoom and begin at 9:00 am. The gatherings will be open to all interested men and women. Dates for the series are Saturdays, February 5, March 5, and April 2.
The leadership team for this event includes Pastor Jeff Procter-Murphy, Dayspring member Scott Bennett, and retired UMC Pastor Bob Mitchell.

United Methodist Men (UMM) provides an opportunity for the men to meet for Christian fellowship.
Meetings begin with a ‘light’ breakfast followed by a short program. We had several qualified authorities and professionals speak this past year. Discussions and debates were always lively and stimulating.
Additionally, we host a weekend retreat that is full of good fellowship, excellent food, leisure time, humor and stimulating discussions. The Men’s Retreat is always fun. . . you don’t want to miss it!

Looking ahead, Dayspring United Methodist Men will begin the 2021-2022 year on Saturday, October 2, at 8:00am, for a delicious breakfast in the Fellowship Hall as we welcome back Tom McLaughlin for his presentation of “The Social Revolution that No One Noticed.” In addition to Tom’s presentation we will include the Lee Cook Memorial Award celebration by honoring an individual for dedication and service to Dayspring. Along with our regular hymn singing and fellowship, we will start the year with a full schedule and much joy and thankfulness to be among our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
